Post-School Options

The prospect of completing school can be daunting for most, but is an especially big step for young people with a disability and their families.

The Disability Services Commission (DSC) and other disability service organisations provide information, support and employment opportunities for life after graduation.

The DSC's Post School Options Program

The Disability Services Commission's Post School Options process provides information and support to young people with a disability who are in their final school years.

The Post School Options program is available to applicants who are unable to pursue full-time studies, and/or sustain twenty hours or more of employment in a business or open employment setting.

Applicants may be considered for the PSO process if they meet the DSC's established eligibility criteria, and have any of the following primary disabilities:

  • profound intellectual;
  • physical;
  • sensory;
  • cognitive; or
  • neurological.

Should applicants meet the eligibility criteria, they can apply for Alternatives to Employment (ATE) funding. ATE programs are based on the needs and goals of each child and focus on social participation, increasing independence, life-long learning and enhancing natural support networks.
